Running Waters is situated about 200k’s south west of Alice Springs on the Finke River. It is one of the few permanent waterholes providing a remote haven for plants, fish, birds and animals. We invite you to immerse your self in this beautiful place, revel in its rich colours, textures and abundant beauty, and let your creative juices flow… like running water.
The drive to Running Waters takes about three hours, the last part through dune country and forests of young desert oaks. Despite this being a listed 4WD drive adventure trail, (the Boggy Hole Track) this spot has infrequent visitors, it feels like an undiscovered secret. It is exquisitely beautiful, with rich colours, wild and varied terrain, and iconic red cliffs reflected in water. River red gums provide plenty of shade for the camp and as usual we set up our ‘studio’ marquee and a pit toilet. When the weather is warm a swim in the Finke is in order. We have found a stunning little clay pan a short walk from camp and some beautiful vistas from the top of the escarpments.
There is just so much here to enjoy and discover, not only is it a week rich with inspiration but it will certainly fuel your creative projects and extend your horizons for years to come.
