Curtin Springs

Curtin Springs

Curtin Springs is situated on the Lasseter Highway 80 km from Uluru. It is a producing cattle station, a Wayside Inn and an award winning  tourism facility that in recent years has added a Hand Made Paper Mill to its ‘salt of the earth’ skill set. Run by the Severin family since 1956 and now embracing 4 generations, this is a unique opportunity to experience the ingenuity that makes the Territory what it is.

The beautiful paper created at Curtin springs comes directly from the land using the local native species; spinifex, woolly butt, kangaroo grass and also desert oak.  During our time at Curtin Springs you will make your own paper, experiencing the entire process from collecting the grasses, boiling, blending and pressing, through to the finished product. We will work with the paper in different ways, experimenting with a variety of media, including those sourced from the environment; ochre, charcoal and rust. You will be encouraged and supported to find the ways to express yourself and your unique vision through the paper, from the earth up.  The possibilities are endless.

Their will be time and opportunity to experience the beautiful and varied environment of Curtin Springs Station, the red sand dune country, the mallee and mulga with majestic Mt Conner ever present on the horizon. There will also be special tours of the station, exploring  the enchanting salt lakes on the property and taking us close to the base of Mt Conner. A full day trip to Uluru and KataTjuta will be included for those who would like to take this opportunity. All accommodation, meals, some drinks are included as well as the paper making and the creative workshops. There will be an additional charge for the Uluru day trip.
