Standley Chasm

Standley Chasm

This new location finds us deep in the heart of Larapinta. If you have walked the Larapinta Trail or have always wanted to, this camp will give the opportunity to ‘sample’ sections of this famous walking trail. The focus however will be on art making rather than bushwalking but for the more adventurous the opportunity is there to explore and draw upon the rugged terrain of Sections 3 and 4 of the Larapinta Trail.

We will using Trek Larapinta’s semi- permanent campsite close to Standley Chasm. This will mean sturdy canvas tents and a bit more infrastructure than on our remote camps. There is also a kiosk at the Chasm, about a kilometre down the road that has mighty fine coffee, devonshire teas and ice creams! So the creature comfort rating of this camp will be a little higher than our more remote camps.

Owned and managed by Traditional  Owners,  Standley Chasm itself is a tourism hotspot, especially in the middle of the day. However if you venture into the Chasm early or later in the afternoon you may well have this extraordinary place all to your self! The chasm is a green oasis, one of the few places in this arid region where Macrozamias are plentiful and even Flannel Flowers grow. The surrounding country is wild and rugged with deeply folded hills and views of West Macdonell Ranges that will surely inspire you.

No upcoming camps are scheduled.
