In 2019 we ran our second fully-accommodated Creative Camp at Ross River Resort in the East MacDonnell Ranges. We find that participants really appreciate its combination of comfort, inspiring company and exploration, both of the terrain and creative media. The only complaint we have had is that one week is just not long enough!
So in 2021 we are offering an EP (Extended Play) Version: 10 DAYS/9 NIGHTS.
Distinctly different from the better known West MacDonnells this eastern end has a special feel … beautiful, rugged and wild but yes, somehow quite different. The area surrounding the Resort has much to offer in itself, beautiful old river gums and natural rock walls that are spectacularly lit by late afternoon light. Photographic opportunities abound and its a wonderful place for night photography. The tract of country between Ross River and Ndhala Gorge is particularly interesting and offers inspiring art making locations. We will visit the much loved Trephina Gorge, and John Hayes Rock Hole for art making and photographic exploration. There will be the opportunity for guided bush walks for those that want to expend some physical energy going deeper into the landscape.
As always we will erect our small marquee as an outdoor ‘studio’ adjacent to our cabins. We will enjoy our own fire place under the stars for communing in the evenings and for watching the full moon rise over the ranges. The cabins have a rustic feel but are very comfortable with air conditioning and a queen and single bed in each, plus ensuite. The old homestead, with its original architecture is rich in history. The managing couple at Ross River , Lee and Graham are very friendly and helpful. The meals are delicious and healthy, they will be provided by their expert staff at Ross River. Drinks will be paid for separately.
