Karlu Karlu

Karlu Karlu

The Traditional Owners of Karlu Karlu will once again grant us special permission to use their own exclusive campsite. It provides us with a generous sheltered workspace, a rain water tank, toilets and a very comfortable campsite set amidst a  ‘sculptural garden’ of native vegetation and red termite mounds, just 1 kilometre from the main rock formations. Photos below will give you a sense of this beautiful campsite, its infrastructure and outlook.

The detail of vegetation, shadows, negative spaces and rock surfaces are a fascinating aspect of this monumental area and a great source of inspiration. Participants on our 2015 Camp were lured by the labyrinth of tunnels between the boulders as well as their sheer scale and incongruity. We worked ‘au plein air’ amongst the formations in the mornings and in the comfort of our shelter during the heat of the day.  Some us us wandered amongst the stones by moonlight for night photography and a deeper experience.  Though a popular destination for tourists it is easy to feel completely alone in this special place. Most travellers do not venture far from their caravans, and spend little time, no matter what time of day. But to see how we spent our time at Karlu Karlu in 2015 please visit our Blog: Go to the top of this page and click Blog, then scroll down to Karlu Karlu in the list at top right. (hopefully I will find a simpler method soon)

No upcoming camps are scheduled.
